For any system, interface or process that requires human engagement, it is only the service design and user experience design considerations that make those systems and processes usable, useful, pain-free and dare I say, pleasurable. Without these fundamental things, any so-called 'design' is nothing but proverbial lipstick on a pig.

Hello.

I'm Evan Skuthorpe, CXO (Chief Experience Officer) at OldWorld Creative Ltd (OWC). My area of expertise is in the field of Interaction Design - the practice of designing interactive digital products and services with considerations of how people use them, how they consume content, and on what devices they use them on. In short, I 'do' experience design, visual design, accessibility, research (discovery through validation), architecture, and UX copywriting.

I come from a niche background in web design-related disciplines like usability, visual design, user experience, HTML and CSS markup writing, and some long-ago front-end dev.

Recent projects OWC have been involved in include designing UX-led solutions in the financial services industry for the UK's biggest retail bank, and more recently, leading on the creation of SaaS products during a digital transformation project for a large land referencing and development planning company providing services to government and the private sector. Today, OWC provides design leadership, experience design, and visual design services to NATO, among others.

I enjoy mentoring other designers, leading and contributing to design processes, working with developers, business analysts and others, constantly learning from my peers and the ever-changing design landscape. I particularly enjoy the learning and exposure that comes from working with the varied industries OWC provides services for. I believe that it makes me a better, more well-rounded human and designer. I'm a driven, details-and-big-picture-oriented individual and I think this comes across in the work of OWC, where UCD and accessibility converge.

Elsewhere, and more importantly in life, I'm a father of three, a husband, curious world traveller, dual-national, and I'm an enthusiastic documentary photographer - actively and conceptually recording the world around me. I shoot street photography in the straight photographic style (think a cross-between Joel Meyerowitz and Stephen Shore, only with no skill). See my work on Instagram.

Evan Skuthorpe,
Chief Experience Officer
